How to Print and Display a Payment QR Code for Your Business

By GoTap3 min read

To print a payment QR code for your business, get the original code from your payment provider, preserve its shape and clear border, and test the finished print before putting it on display. Place it where customers can scan comfortably, with instructions that explain which app to use.

A good payment sign should answer three questions: How do I scan this? Who am I paying? What should I check before confirming?

Start with the correct business QR code

Get your payment QR code from the account you use to receive business payments. Check that it belongs to the right business before printing several copies.

For GoTap, switch to your business profile, open Receive, and select QR Code. Check the name shown before sharing the code for printing.

Use the original image wherever possible. Avoid rebuilding the code in an unfamiliar QR generator or printing a blurry screenshot of a screenshot.

If a designer or printer prepares the sign, send the original code separately from your layout instructions.

Keep the code clear and unchanged

A QR code needs clear space around its edges. DENSO WAVE, the developer of QR Code technology, specifies a margin of four modules—the small squares that make up the code—on each side.

Keep your business name, logo, payment instructions and decorative elements outside that space. Avoid stretching the code, cropping its border or placing text across it.

There is no single print size that works for every code and every setting. A code beside a cashier can be smaller than one customers must scan from further away. The amount of information in the code and the quality of the print also matter.

Use strong contrast and a clear original image, then test the actual printed result at the distance customers will use it.

Tell customers which app to use

“Scan to pay” can leave customers guessing. Different payment QR codes work with different services.

For a GoTap payment sign, simple instructions could read:

Pay with GoTap
Scan this code in your GoTap app.
Check the business name and amount before confirming.

Both the customer and the business need GoTap for a GoTap QR payment. A code that a phone camera can recognise is not necessarily payable through every banking app.

Put it where people can scan comfortably

Choose a flat, visible position near the point where customers pay. Avoid folds, curved containers, deep shadows and reflective covers that produce glare.

If you laminate the sign, test it under your shop’s lighting. A code that works before lamination may become harder to read through a shiny surface.

Keep a second copy available on your phone in case the printed sign becomes damaged.

Test the print before using it

Use the intended payment app to scan the finished sign. Confirm that it opens the expected recipient.

Scanning and reviewing the recipient tests readability. It does not prove that a payment has been completed. If you also test a real payment, agree on the amount and check the completed incoming transaction in the receiving account.

Check displayed signs regularly for damage or unexpected replacement stickers. Replace worn copies using the original file.

A readable QR code helps customers begin a payment. Your own transaction record tells you whether the money arrived.
